Home Furnishings Sales and Design
If you would enjoy helping people find the best solutions for their home furnishings and design needs, consider a satisfying professional career in residential or commercial home furnishings sales. Blackledge Furniture is the mid valley's oldest and largest home furnishings center serving Oregon customers since 1901. The position involves identifying customer needs and helping them select the most appropriate products to meet their needs from a wide range of options in a casual, home like, store environment. Appropriate skills include sales and customer assistance skills, basic interior design knowledge such as color coordination, room arrangement, and fabrics, as well as general problem solving and selling skills. We provide extensive initial and on-going training on products, room design, and our business systems. Because of the breadth of our products, the most successful applicants demonstrate a good ability to learn new things quickly, and set strong self management goals.
Normal work hours are 8:40 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Saturday. Sunday hours are 11:40 AM to 5:00 PM. Both full time, 5 day per week, and 4 day per week schedules may be available. Because 50% to 70% of total earnings normally result from commissions, our most successful sales advisers normally work one or both weekend days, with days off mid week, since weekend days days have higher levels of customer traffic.
The position requires good interpersonal communication, customer service, and self management skills. Prior selling experience with furniture, floor coverings, or related products is preferred, but not required. Some post secondary education with coursework in Art, Design, or Interior Design is preferred, but prior practical experience is also valuable. A valid drivers license and good driving record is needed for occasional design visits to residential and commercial sites. A good computer background and the ability to type at least 20 wpm is desirable, since our sales and operations are fully computerized.
Compensation: Compensation is a combination of salary, sales commission, and self improvement incentives of $2200.00 to $6000.00+ or more per month, that rewards you for your individual skills and performance. Benefits for full time sales advisers after the 3 month training period include 10 to 24 days per year of paid personal leave/vacation per year.
